now-defunct but still the original Canucks hockey podcast, the Canucks Outsider ran for several years and garnered massive attention in Vancouver and worldwide – besides pods, see art and media archive

I’ve found that the podcast episode “album art’ pieces are hard to keep sorted. I’ve also found that there are a lot and in a variety of sizes. For a flashback and convenience, here’s a batch of them all in one place with more to come as i find them. Find more Podcast Album Art in Flickr. Many are by me, the rest are by my pal Bread. In preparation for the 2009-10 season – the 12 for HockeyNW and 5 for Canucks Outsider, i tool a step back to assemble an archive of HockeyNW web interfaces and plans since 1998 (also see HockeyNW & CanucksOutsider on Flickr for more).

Some are screenshot from Archive.org’s Way Back Machine and others are scavenged from my disorganized trove of stuff. Some are annotated, some are not. Some related inspirational items and links along the way as well. There are a few other version missing in action which i’ll add for posterity when possible.

Red Wing Chelios’ Mugshot in James Mirtle’s blog

James Mirtle is one of the very best hockey writers – counting both professional and amateur pundits alike.  He is a proud BC boy done good and, while he writes on all NHL teams + CIC sports and so on, he is a Canucks fan and i wondered if he tuned into the Outsider.

While i still don’t know if he enjoys my podcast hi-jinks, i do know he found my photo of Chelios outfront a Vancouver hotel and used the mugshot in a post about Chelios for his (very good BTW) series on the NHLPA inner-workings through the upheaval and current reinvention.

He (in his busy summer haste  no doubt) left the photo uncredited so i figured the backstory should be posted for the record ;-).

So, as i put in the comments:

For the record, … the photo of the Chelios (in his very nice suit) was taken while Chelios, Draper, Lang and Maltby ordered coffee before getting beat down by the Canucks 4-1 on St. Patrick’s Day.

Indeed, I recorded a show about that game as the host of Canucks Outsider podcast and co-host of Crazy Canucks podcast {pardon the plug}.

I ran into them coincidentally (though there were plenty of mouth breather autograph ‘pros’ waiting) in front of the Pan Pacific hotel at Canada Place in Vancouver.

I asked the “dark lord” about the Bertuzzi addition (traded days before) – he guffawed and accused me of digging up dirt and then gave me crap about taking his photo before chilling out and mugging for a few snaps.

I also helped (the very polite) Draper and Lang get a cab (Lang looked drained and iron-deficient).

Thought it was interesting that the 4 veterans got an early start via taxi to the rink while the rest of the guys (i assume) rode the waiting charter bus.

Added err …bonus?: More the Red Wings getting coffee (at some heinous international chain).

With the Canucks leading us into what could be the most thrilling Spring in recent Vancouver's history, Canucks Outsider will be "Alive for the Playoffs" with a live video companion webcast on Friday or Saturday Canucks games throughout the run towards Lord Stanley's Cup.

Join in the fun with live chat, trivia, memorabilia, hi-jinks, beer, interviews and anecdotes from host Dave Thorvald, Dan Funboy and the bench of Canucks Outsider hockey renegades sharing insight, insults and banter. Unlike the suits on TV, we're hanging out with our hockey buddies drinking beer (and occasionally using adult language).

Like the Canucks without Sami Salo, minus cameraman Dale, our squad lacked focus and finish but with enough Bar-b-q and beer, we managed to survive the night in better shape the beleaguered Canucks who turned in their first clinker of the playoffs.

The good news abounds as the series is 1-1 and the Canucks have shown great resiliency this season and frankly, this *is* the first loss of the Playoffs – we weren’t really gonna sweep all 16 right?

The Alive for the Playoffs roster featured Ian the Goalie who appeared in the “Rickety Roller Coaster Ride” episode #65 – we revisited fave topics like Kyle Wellwood, the NHL’s suspension policies regarding headshots, International rules, NHL ownership foibles, league management of the Coyotes and nuances of the goaltending position. We also broke out the Don Cherry hat and jacket for good luck.

As usual, sage-like Dan Funboy chimed in with his usual assortment of trivia, miscellanea and opinion. Ferg, Richard, Roland, Ianiv, John B., John B2, Karen and Deborah rounded out the scoring.

Ian the Goalie and Dave the hostCheck out the video archive of the episode – due to technical foibles, there are many small segments to wade through and/or peruse Canucks Outsider photos.

Despite the technical challenges, we did manage to improve a few things (stoked out the Ustram channel page), share some hardcore hockey talk, and gave out sealed packs of 1991 hockey cards without gum but featuring holograms (which apparently don’t age well).
