Scrapbook sessions / making best messes while sorting and cutting

Very pleasing scrapbook session recently working on an accident triptych in similar type notebooks with similar decorations.

Getting my standard supplies at hand including: several scissors and pinking shears, a few glue, several widths & depths of double-sided tape, Photo corners, straight edge and a crappy cutting knife. Plus importantly, good records, and a phone to the wind.

Topics include: recent correspondence cards and letters; a trip to see money to a museum and aquarium; a trip to Kyoto for a workshop and a temple.Topics include: recent correspondence cards and letters; a trip to see money to a museum and aquarium; a trip to Kyoto for a workshop and a temple.

Assembling the raw material – Postcards, Insta snapshots, a few calligraphies, various business cards, couple of pamphlets and notations from a temple… then choosing a scrapbook that will fit *everything* and somehow connect to the aesthetic of little bit [Note to self and others: don’t overthink]

Then comes much cutting then sort of sort into piles by topics, themes – loosely around chronology, media and colors.

Best kind of mess. Then you start gluing, taping, floating, making little envelopes portfolios inside the notebook. Plus a special cover and back cover and often inside fly leaves, and an envelope to put all the odds and ends don’t quite fit right away.

Final step is writing in bits of narrative just enough to push the story along. In these cases, used various letter and date stamps to give a general sense of place and time.

I made some videos, eventually you’ll see some of them, maybe… Now that I think about this one you can see and I even talk about the letters and put it in the scrapbook so it’s the one before this one if you’re keeping score

Scrapbooks for all Reasons / Japan Cottage Musings

With a coffee and pyjamas, Dave riffs about types of scrapbooks, ways to make from scratch, reasons for making (memory and flow), a bit about creative process and keeping organized, handy tools and supplies, and other ways to fancy up your books with inky stamps, postage stamps, stickers and up-cycled meta scraps. Plus hey, fun for the family, liberate the items from shoeboxes, put on an album or two and go with the flow.

Scrapbook: Wonder Hotel / rejuvenations, inspirations + amusements (2018)

Scrapbook: Wonder Hotel / rejuvenations, inspirations + amusements (2018), cover

I make scrapbooks and journals for all sorts of reasons, sometimes for my own creations and writing, sometimes for specific project and in this case, for inspiration or dareisay therapy.

Background: I was having hard go of it in life or whatever and moved into a very small room at a boarding-house-type place. While basic, i quite loved having a place which kept me safe and allowed me rest. Reminded me a sign i saw in Vancouver for the “Wonder Hotel – Rooms for Rent – Clean, Quiet, Free Cable, Fridge, Secure” – all the attributes this Ankangan Guesthouse possessed.

Scrapjournals for no particular reason / Guide to Goodtimes

Often times, I make scrap journals for no particular reason, just for enjoyment of gathering interesting paper tidbits and ephemera which I enjoy… Then somehow a “theme” or story of some kind emerges. Especially after being stuck/fermenting in a suitcase for months or years, as soon as I open a booklet of artifacts, so many memories return. Some of you might see oddities in here wish you recognize and enjoy as well presented in a different context.
Do you gather memories and stories in someway?
