Poem: ‘Served my Heart’ #draft

Served my heart

Suppose its petty
And surely inelegant
but I’ll spill it anyhow
As i recollect

“I still think of all the stuff
I suddenly gave away
When I I though I will die”

All the paintings I sent away
Hoping to be remembered
My hand or another held
The brush and decision

Thought would bring
Safety net and affection
And watchful eye on escape
A photo shows up sometimes
In a flashback and fleeting
Glance

Fireworks or factories
On a Spanish coast, a grotto
Fig de Foz or Gandhi beach park

Lions gate in a windstorm
Pretending i was Varley
Taking late night ferry
Over between drunken tug boat races

All gone but for the snaps
I try to make anew
But hand only knows how
To forget and the paint
Goes on in errant blobs
Maintaining current mood

Postal Art cards hang out (in kura barn with Bill Janovitz tunes)

Just remixing some passports from Romania and Albania.

Ambient views and vibes of making a series of 4 very different postcards ~ fiddling with stamps (postal and inky), various pens, scissors, glue and other crafts odds and ends in kura barn in provincial Japan

Stamps and items from: Gibraltar, Malaysia, Diego Garcia, Nepal, Palau, Tuvalu, Japan, Tahiti, Antigua, Sri Lanka, India, BOIT, Newfoundland, CCCP, Canada, UK, & featuring Fredrick Varley, Ichiro Olson, Baden-Powell, Capilano suspension bridge, rabbits and many other notable details and destinations.

No chit-chat or narration, just hanging out.while listening to Bill Janovitz’s great album Walt Whitman Mall (used w/o clearence) on vinyl with admiration.

Vancouver Photographer Kris Krug @kk has a new website

My frequent collaborator and co-conspirator on many adventures Kris Krug has a new website. KK is a Vancouver-area based  photographer (he lives on idyllic Galiano Island) with creds ranging from conferences to rare bird docs on remote islands to sojourns in distant countries spreading goodness.

A friend will bail you out of prison. A good friend will be sitting next to you saying "damn that was fun!".
Kris Krug and Uncle Weed post-swim at Bob Marley’s swimming hole in Little bay, Jamaica

We’ve done many projects together over the years including Frederick Varley Vancouver-address photo essay, trip to Jamaica, several SXSW and Gnomedex geekfests and all sorts of goofing around in unusual circumstances.

Kris Krug’s Flickr archive is majestic and his new website is a replacement for his previous iterations which were hijacked via an SMS hack in 2018. So frustrating and a reminder to solid up your security (including SSL) and ensure you are working with a reliable host and domain registration provider (i use Laughing Squid and Gandi for the record).

There are many posts in this archive under the Kris Krug tag as well including lots of Olympic social documentation stuff around the True North Media House project, TEDx events at which we were the “official” documentation squad, longboard hockey for Heads Magazine and a panel about Rock n Roll photography with legend bev. davies.

Included are photos of us for the record.

Upon the Varley Trail – Postcard #83

Along his namesake trail on banks of Lynn Creek comes story of Group of 7 bohemian painter Frederick Varley’s 10 wild years in Vancouver teaching and founding art schools, developing new aesthetics and shacking up in an $8 mountain home with mistress.

Exhibit: Douglas Coupland mixed-media at VAG, vol. 7 (paintings, remix’d / G7)

Notes about Group of 7 and Coupland
here, this blurb tells all about DC and the G7 (which was a treat for me as i’d just published my mixed-media piece about Varley) – note to self: i need to get him a copy of the essays

Evidence from mixed-media master Douglas Coupland’s exhibit at Vancouver Art Gallery – the assortment of items i captured from the wide-array of mediums he works with/in, are arranged into 7 volumes for convenience. This is volume 7, Painting, remix’d/G7 (my title, not his). Note: some of these paintings were “technically only sorta” part the Coupland exhibit as i recall. I don’t know really.

G7 painting (Varley?)
“don’t take photo on the 2nd floor” i was instructed – but Varley never told me that, so…

Cityscape of blocks
this project was crowd-sourced where folks built disparate parts, and DC assembled into a common aesthetic of a familiar architecture language
