Artifact: All the trophies…

All the prizes for this big timer  / from cub car designing, drum corps percussioning, various science fairs, cross country running, “citizenship” & t-balling.

PS Feels a little bit Rushmore, sometimes Royal Tenenbaums, other parts a little bit more Darjeeling Limited

Memento: Trevor and Me and beards and dreams and specs

Via my pal Trevor: Old and grainy. Fell out of a plant identification book my son was looking at. The non-bearded is now bearded, and the bearded is now non-bearded due to the Viking red having changed to a different colour. And check out the depths of the poet’s eyes. Ever present, observant and turning every moment into a story

Me: problem with the eyes is no off switch, always gathering and collecting and then one day, you have a massive archive of creations to share

Disguise: King Tut

DNA studies and archeological research attempt to describe what the young – almost forgotten until discovery – Pharaoh of Egypt looks like. But here is a likely reasonable likeness, standing before you as noble and straight as possible. Along with a scale, illuminated model of what Howard Carter saw when he cracked the seal with Lord Carnarvon’s backing.

Artifacts (youngtime): Certificates, Elementary school – Roll of Honour, etc. / assorted

Certificates: Roll of Honour, Harold Bishop Elementary, Grade 2, Achievement

While acknowledging that receiving such Honour Roll status at a young age had no material benefit to future life, nor did this increase self-worth or esteem, or “gain favour with the ladies” as it were. I am however, an unabashed enthusiast of paper-y items, including certificates. As such, as these have remained with me (or in many cases with my now-late-beloved Mother), i am gleefully compelling to document for posterity.

Who’s posterity or for who’s interest? I do not know and am indifferent to such details. These are simply ephemeral documents of life.

Noting, i’m either missing a certificate for Grade 1, or they were not issued to students of that age. Also, some of these are specific to my science fair achievement (documented elsewhere… at some point anyhow) and/or citizenship umm… involvement.

Portrait: Resplendent Cub Scout

Resplendent Cub Scout, circa 1981?
You’ve heard of full patch Hells Angels, right? Well this is what a full
patch Cub Scout looks like – pretty much the same thing… No doubt the Brownies were lining up for closer observation of the middle part hair, slightly feathered.
