Diary: Archival Cabinets, Dirt, Kissaten & Espresso

Picked up a mighty cabinet unit from a crazy junk shop down the road apiece. {The old fella and the lady was so surprised to see my adorable wife driving the k-truck and tying cool trucker knots to secure the load. Yeah she’s the coolest}.

Ryoko’s rig – i love being her sidekick, rolling country roads with a tied down load

plan: Gonna replace these open book shelves on the right (photo below). The new cabinet has glass front doors so I can put in de-humidification packets to control the humidity to keep my fancy collectible books safe and sound.

Don’t worry, the air conditioner is positioned well in front of the stereo and records

Then, will get rid of these shtty IKEA shelves (which are about to collapse under the weight of the books & the records anyway).

The trick is going to be getting this unit up the steep kura stairs as it’s quite heavy. The current crappy shelves attached to the wall with L brackets and all the books and artifacts will need to be thoughtfully removed… This takes some thinking and a friend (Hi Ted!)

We had the home center all to ourselves with attentive staff helping us load up the truck

Also picked up buncha soil, manure, etc stuff for Ryoko’s job site tomorrow. #arborist #landscapedesign

Take a spin, I personally am not qualified to operate motor vehicles at this point in my life

Oh & a quirky bric a brac laden kissaten lunch (with a friendly owner and a variety of bikes and scooters around despite his very limited eyesight, all in a giant dog have a breed I have no reference of).

Clearly a lot of love went into this machine. I wish the coffee shop had a seat other than one rustic wooden bench… Like aesthetically I get it but a little bit of cozy is nice

Finally a stop fancy espresso at an almost too hip coffee roaster with a gorgeous machine which must require diligent maintenance and elegant repairs.

Overall come out way way too much for me in one day but sometimes when the opportunities are there, you gotta do *all of the things* even if it means a couple of recovery days. Life goes on, and I want to be part of it.

Beverages: spotted / enjoyed in the wild

beverages, various vessels and vareties
roaster: mixing old tech and new tech to make a small beverage, very well

Diary: Immigration, Espresso, Photobooths

May 21: Time to extend visa/zairyu (foreign resident) card – form is simple and the quick/cheap photo booths everywhere make process extra handy / dropping off tomorrow morn when Okayama immigration office is least busy (and most likely to be most clean). #japanlife ‬

May 28: (delayed) Rocked immigration office for Zairyu card extension (hopefully 3 years) so hit up a secret import corner at mall right at opening time – alas best peanut butter stash a no-go but espresso & gelato break kinda making up for it #outsidethewall

Details: We were first ones at the immigration office at 9:05 this morning, they did temperature check, various signins etc.… The form we filled out was *somehow* not the right one and we filled out another one on the spot, handed in passports, current residence (zairyu) card, photos etc. etc. and five minutes later were on our way with a stamped receipt inside the passport. We addressed a postcard on site which they will mail when it’s time for us to come back to do the next step, at which point we need to buy a special excise stamp for ¥4000. Hoping this will be issued for three years.

Then, stopped at a photo booth for yet another set of instant photos for a “my number“ card for government services of different kinds. Is a slightly different sized photo (of course) but got it snapped, cut out, glued onto the application and into the mailbox with the prepaid envelope. All this life administration stuff! Hooray!

Coffee in Sanur
Not shockingly, some fine coffee available in Sanur, Indonesia

I purchased some books and cards and other oddities at Hardy’s , Sanur, then went to the nearby café to review purchases – a varoety of poetry, fiction, non-fiction and reference about Bali and nearby Malay peninsula for the first part. Worked through some, some are intolerable. The “Indonesia and Not, Poems and Otherwise” is BY FAR the pick of the litter, really something special.

stack em up, see what ya got
Always happy to see a quality espresso machine, ready for action

Party at the Vancouver Seed Bank – Choogle on #59
Party at the Vancouver Seed Bank – Choogle on #59

While prepping for an oil painting, Uncle Weed sparks a joint and talks about travel plans (Austin, Texas for SxSW and Mexico for chillaxin’), catches up with the Vancouver 3 extradition situation (and the grandstanding DEA and DoJ despots), then revisits a party at Vancouver Seed Bank (and Toker’s Lounge) with proprietor (and former editor of Cannabis Culture) Dana Larsen who tells about his political work (NDP Candidate for Sunshine Coast), and his new Hairy Pothead graphic novel.

Also, Uncle Weed pitches a speaking gig at Vancouver’s personal expression conference (and good time) Northern Voice, plus other podcasts series and upcoming shows, and finally an update on the Clayoquot art contest, and oh yeah, rumours about another Herby show.
