Books: Canoe Bookshelf in Nusa Ceningan (Summer 2019)

Books are my pals, even since a kid  – and sometimes books (by circumstance or convenience) are stashed at mysterious locales around the world.

Sometimes, i snap pics of the cache for future reference, sometimes they go to little /free libraries, sometimes into my “Liberated Literature” program.

Regardless, sometimes, the bookcases and/or contents are captured for memory of spending time with friends in a still-life of sorts. As such, this dossier of evidence.

In this case, a case from Nusa Ceningan (made from an old canoe) from Summer 2019 reading, including usual assortment of Tolstoy Kerouac, plus an assortment of Vancouver-centric treats by Eve Lazarus, George Garrett and Grant Lawrence, a few Bali-specifics, Rumi’s romantic poetry, Ginsberg’s India Journal (1st edition, 1970) etc.

Note the canoe bookshelf is decorated with various insta-photos and travel / hotel luggage tags and a few paintings.

Mom: 3 Years Gone – “Tour de Ashes”

Hi Mom,

Well today is 3 years gone and wow, so much has happened since the worst phone call ever in Auroville.

I won’t get into all the details but do want to catch you up on all the geo-locations (and other memorials) your ashes are distributed… for the time being at least.

Overall, you’ll be happy to know we’ve added a few more stamps to your figurative passport and there are many places scattered around the world where you are especially remembered.

We’ll start the world tour with the most obvious and familiar locations in Utah:

First, the Celebration of Life Monument in SLC right by the (fabulous) library. This wall took some doing to make it all happen but worth the work and looks great.

Your entire full name with all the middle names is engraved on the wall and allll spelled perfectly!

Scrapbook: Guestbook, Ceningan Resort (front cover), 2018

My pal in Indonesia had a lovely guestbook he made with me for his boutique diving resort and shisha lounge (pictured elsewhere in this archive), alas a fire in the bar took it away. So I humbly pitched-in to make a fresh one from available materials.

In this case, a manila airmail envelope for a cover, a clip-board for a backer, some lousy binding tape and ribbon to try to hold the whole block together. The block was certificate paper made for school award, hearty and decorative.

Added a variety of cancelled international postage stamps, a few stickers, and instructions in sparkly paint maker, plus a few social media related logos with water colour pencils. Oh yeah, a few inky stamps too. I had a helper named Tymur for this project.

New Yellow Bridge Connecting Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan in Bali Indonesia

Another visit to Nusa Ceningan, Bali, Indonesia for a walk across the new “Yellow Bridge” which replaced the previous bridge which collapsed killing several folks who were on way to a ceremony. The new bridge shares the same super structure (i think) though its slightly wider now and with a metal bridge deck. Still made for pedestrians and scooters/bikes – of which now two can sorta…almost… pass.

This bridge connects Nusa Ceningan with Nusa Lembongan in Bali. Indonesia. This clip shows the influx of tourists who come to take photos of the charming bridge crossing a lovely channel plied by various boats. https://youtu.be/Z3zsH6dz1jw

(infamous) Yellow Bridge connecting Nusa Ceningan + Lembongan in Bali, Indonesia – Now Tragically Collapsed

A visit to Bali, Indonesia for a walk across the now infamous “Yellow Bridge” – made for pedestrians and scooters/bikes at certain time – which connected Nusa Ceningan with Nusa Lembongan in Bali. Indonesia. This clip show some workers repairing the ridge which sadly collapsed resulting in the death of many people – pilgrims returning from a day of silent prayer. Now replaced.
