Not Just for Collecting – Vinyl for the Vibes

I know I know some record enthusiasts are purists and can’t even abide the thought of listening to anything but an original pressing and think colored vinyl is detrimental to sound quality at best or novelty at worst (or vice versa) however,

I find the records purchased in youthful days of yore – especially in the 1980s but also older pressings collected from 60s and 70s – are pressed on flimsy vinyl with mediocre packaging quality (yes I’m obsessive about paper stock) and a lot of the punk/alt/indie/whatever records really could’ve used a better mastering so,

I’m very happy that there is “new school” pressing technology, plus small labels are doing frequent Spruce stop reissues complete with backstory liner notes and freshen up “de-muddifying” & 180 gram vinyl has become the standard rather than an exception, and yup: colored /translucent variations add a little bit of charm to the overall aesthetic of the creation

Note: When buying an album, I’m not ordering as an “collectible” i’m ordering it for the songs & vibes and you know, to listen to… hopefully a lot – yet when i pull the slab outta the sleeve and voilà, a thoughtful shade emerges! i’ll happily admit i’m especially thrilled

How do you feel about colored vinyl pressing? or are you strictly black and maybe a bit cynical about variety? Either way, cool cool, no big deal
