Tiny Projects, Tender Heart – Crawling Back with a Zine

  • Making Zine & Song (while crawling out of crash mode) *

With “the illness” (which I won’t bother to explain), too much action or stimulation – no matter how pleasing it is, and in this case, all recent activities measured separately were very pleasant and fulfilling, however cumulatively it puts the body into recovery Deb.

[In function, this feels like being at the bottom of a dark hole where every joint, muscle, nerve ending and fiber aches and all senses are continued to a degree the body switches and sticks into “sympathetic” mode rather than the pleasant “parasympathetic” – my delicate body thinks that it’s in crisis due to autonomic dysfunction and confused viruses of unknown origin embedded into the neuropathic pathways blah blah blah]

So as I’m pulling it back together, I have to reset ye ole nervous system so attempt pleasant tasks which I often talk :

  • postcards
  • scrapbooking
  • video chitchat
    as well as
  • “core 5” tasks

Once I’m sort of there, I fiddle with creative outlets, in this case:

  • shodo calligraphy haiku
  • poetry & musings zine
  • song with uke, drums & words

I wonder if you would like my zine/chapbook project? It’s laid out analog on A3 paper to be reproduced in black on washi-esque paper and contains poems, a couple of illustrations, snapshots, stamps and a few other musings about logistics from the Misasa Hot Springs trip which I’m sure you’re well acquainted with now

Anyway, I’ll probably make a print run of 20, hand fold, cut, number, sign and stamp and prepare to mail out into the world… Although I gotta admit, the continual rise in postage rates and continual decline in cash flow is causing me some consternation :(

Anyway, below are

  • lovely lilies petals, now pressing and drying to include into the wee books to give a sensory level of enjoyment
  • handwritten version of the key poem created as a gift for (one of) my doctor(s)
  • microphone, with lyrics and chords scribbled on large calendar paper (clamped to a cymbal) as i fiddle with multi track recording

Anyway, me and my darlings made shepherds pie last night, the dishes are washed, laundry is folded, bedsheets changed, the bath washed, the woodstove firing, and a pork roast in the oven

Thank you for all your kind words and taking the time to look at my little projects… {And when I say little that is not to diminutize my efforts, what it means is: projects I can do from beginning to middle to end in more or less one session without turning into another “forever project” – I’m not trying to change the world, I’m just trying to enjoy myself a bit and make something you might enjoy}

So, do you want one of these zines?
