Brian @tokyorecordstyle started a project to celebrate his 20th anniversary in Japan with #JapanVinylTag2024 several several months ago in which he shared a list of Japanese-inspired prompts to share records (from anywhere, not necessarily Japan) and spark community by sharing stories, new selections and whatnot
Due to a broken foot and a record player on the second floor of steep stairs, various other construction projects and health conundrums and a recent hot spring sojourn, I’m just getting around to shooting it now, like just now
Still need to get the footage off the camera, tidy up some edits and get it posted to YT which frankly might take a while :-)
I share lots of stories from buying records with paper route money in my adolescence to current day scores, my love of package design and paper-craft, affection for poetics, a lot of gatefolds and coloured vinyl… numerous digressions, indeed, plentiful
So much so that the camera displayed “battery exhausted” and well, after all that thinking and sharing and storytelling, I was exhausted too – but the best kind of exhausted
