VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – When the world comes to town for the 2010 Games, the media spotlight won’t just be on the competitions.
Robert Scales, a social media expert, explains bloggers will get to add their say about many things not medal and performance related.
He says rights-holders have different priorities.
“They will tend to focus on the result, on the activity, on the story behind getting that gold medal versus citizen journalism, because of the restrictions they have. They will only take the approach of looking at the culture, at the art scene, at the downtown eastside poverty issue.”
He adds the IOC hasn’t used the Internet to their advantage so far, with no real strategy in place for online content.
Among those rights-holders is News1130, Vancouver’s official radio station for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
