Okayama Japan Travel Overview on #SustainableTravelJapan

+ from: Okayama Super Fan / dept of propaganda ≠

I was a guest on JJ Walsh Seeking Sustainability live talk show (sept 27, 2021) during a special week about tourism in Setouchi/Chugoku region talking about dear forever home Okayama.

Topics were varied – from Bizen pottery to art islands to custom Kojima denim to grateful goats and most points in between – banter was amusing (she does great research) and spectacles on point 🙂

Hope i represented well for spirit of Momotaro as i name-checked favourites aspects of living in the “Goldilocks of Japan” ™. Spoiler: my *not-secret* fave is Rural Caprine Farm. Also name checks for Mac Kobayashi & Amy Chavez ++ so many locals businesses & destinations including Katsuyama, Maniwa, various ~shima, the Market & the mystery of Momotaro & utility access covers (Pokéman).

Do consider sitting down with a leisurely beverage and hanging out. Eager to hear what you think.

Diary: stop by the goat farm (Grateful Dead, ephemera, records, sandwiches)

Dear wife slowed down from her tree trimming teaching, job site visits, landscape planning, tea ceremony, band practice etc. etc. to sneak away to our favorite place for a couple hours for lunch and a visit.

Every time stop by Rural Caprine Farm, make sure to snap a picture of my haiku post box.

There may be more “prestigious“ museums in the world but no where I’d rather be exhibited and remembered then my pal’s goat farm.

Thank you for being my friend and supporting my art Mac Kobayashi san.

PS wearing Bali united shirt in support of my friends in Indonesia

Of course farmer Mac Kobayashi has the new Jerry Garcia box set that was released, like I don’t know… tomorrow or something. Good news is, I was fortunate to see several shows on the same 1991 tour.

Bonus: sandwich / pretty much everything in this is housemade including the focaccia, goat cheese and Porchetta

Warm welcome by these hosts (still not doing yoga, or on the roof)

A few new 7 inches in his collection as well. Including Neil Young’s “Wonderin’” from the over-looked (& lawsuit provoking) Shocking Pinks album.

Just when think have all the ephemera i ever need, a certain magician sends an envelope containing a dozen rabbit holes to head down.

(are you an) Okayama Farmer or Gardener seeking compost?

Are you a Gardener &/or Farmer in Okayama area seeking Compost?

Goats making compost at Rural Caprine Farm

Good news! My pal Mac Kobayashi at Rural Caprine farm has literally heaps of goat-based compost in Higashi-ku outside Okayama city.

Stop by, have a fancy lunch or top-notch espresso and fill up a few bags – seriously. My mother-in-law can attest to the positive impact on her garden.

Putting a photo of a pile of compost isn’t very appealing so here are some goats, cute!

Rolling Elsewhere: Trains, planes and goats in Japan

Riding and visiting various trains around Okayama, Tottori and Shimane Japan, plus saying hello to some goats, and watching a plane take off at Kansai airport.

A Return to Nippon – Postcard #70

Postcards from Gravelly Beach – Return to Nippon, onsen

Returning to Japan for the first time since working as a mushroom farmer in the Tottori-ken mountains decades previous, Dave rambles on about the circumstance – then and now – while wandering near his pal’s goat farm. Riffs include: arriving in the snow and getting settled, bailing on job, hitch-hiking around islands, falling in love(ish), eating okonomiyaki, soaking in hot springs and living simultaneously in the future and past. Also persimmons and goats, pigs, cows et al.

Cultural Field Notes For Ramblers – Choogle On! Jamaica Scheme #9

Choogle On Jamaica Scheme #9

“Mongooses are like ninja squirrels – stealth, rat-eating machines. They kinda look like squirrels but squirrels are gentle, nut-eating creatures and mongooses (mongeese) are feared sniper killers.”

After more banter about lobsters, reggae and food, Uncle Weed offers observations about music industry, taxi drivers, civic pride, pothole filling, corrupt government and cynicism, devalued currency, human potential, news of the day, Patois remix, ninja squirrel mongoose, Rasta culture, fireflies, coconuts, kids doing homework, bats catching mosquitos, meaning of goats, donkeys strolling, swimming (or lack thereof), varieties of crabs, Prime Minsterial hijinks, calling elections, cruise ships, markets, churches, and Jamaica-Canada connections.
