Diary: hospitals, lunch, postcards, bus… just the same + ramen & moon – Dave Olson's Creative Life Archive

Diary: hospitals, lunch, postcards, bus… just the same + ramen & moon

Preamble:

I am here
I'm trying
I'm flustered

I changed my outfit twice (possibly more)

because autumn remains elusive

Several checkpoints and transfers ahead

Yes, flustered but breathing

PS many vegetables delivered

Later: Solid appointment with Dr., adjusted some meds, recommended long stay at Hot Spring ♨️

Dropped off ‘scrips, most to be sent via courier, will pick up some small & urgent

Fantastic lunch / kohi ¥1200

The proprietor of the kissa knows my needs and quirks well so when I show up spinning after the hospital, takes good care of me, hot water in a Bizen ceramic cup for all my granules from satchel of Chinese medicine #Luxury

{it’s such a wonderful experience and my oasis of comfort and leisure – right close to the pharmacy and after spinning through the hospital, I can land there safely, leave rested and nourished ++ without much ¥¥ out of my pocket :-)}

The round top mailbox is in front of his humble but spectacular restaurant, yes, with cat paw motif

Wrote 4 postcards, 1 domestic, 3 international

And yes that’s a cute purple flower in my hat to give me a spark and to amuse/delight the hospital staff

+++

popped into a post office, not my usual, to mail postcards / pleasant conversation with clerk (she’s visited Vancouver 3x, stayed at Hyatt) + a lady in line who asked if I was from Spain – did the thing where act surprised they’re asking you where you’re from (as if, *of course I’m just a regular guy from the local town here*, how interesting for you to ask?)

I pointed out the very Okayama specific postcards I was mailing and asked “aren’t these cute?”

They agreed, “yes they are verrrry cute, you have an Okayama heart”

And I did a little guffaw about the rising price of stamps (domestic postcards gone from ¥63-¥85)

~~
Back on the bus (this Ryobi service doesn’t have Wi-Fi or power outlets, I ride it to Okayama train station and switch to my beloved Uno bus with all the amenities)

“Hang in there Dave, couple more minutes and you’re on the bus and heading home”

Now I’m waiting for the bus at the very unpleasant (busy, not comfortable/cozy) eki station bus loop, keeping myself semi-sane by talking to you all

Home, rest, bath – later ramen

xo

bonus:

bath / co-working space :)

Ramen (our joint’s 9th anniversary + visitor from Osaka)

Good night Moon, everyone says you’re super now but I think you’re super every night

Pre-epilogue: the day before

Tomorrow is hospital day, so pardon me if a little bit anxious

Nothing to worry, nothing to fear – the doctor is kindly, diligent doing her very best

I’ll get cocktail injection, drop off prescription at pharmacy, have lunch at un-secret kissa & ride bus home #mecfs
