Post’d: variety of 13 queens, medium / messages, pins and 1 prince

It’s a dossier of secret documents from so many queens… About a dozen {oh I counted, 13 queens and one prince} And hey, that’s my address and phone number so you can get in on the fun (don’t drop by unexpected though, I won’t have had a chance to make tea) – guesses about the official – but not for me – documents inside this diplomatic pouch?

All these mediums and all these messages, who’s to say what’s what anymore? I’ll have to ask a Winnipigeon / then, and only then will the secrets be revealed – from a barn of annotated tomes

Update: package opened and contains my new uniform Haloha Dave

Yep, he’s definitely my boy :-) photo from his preschool when they sent letters to grandparents for “Elder appreciation day” / His was the only one with a special airmail stamp

Finally (for now) huge gratitude for the fantastic package from a dear kind friend since the mysterious Pacific Blue Drum Corps days (not ot be confused from the TV series or random company names) which will eventually have a proper dossier.

The three of us in bed last night tore through the layers of packing tape and into the treasure box of pins. Ya know i love treasures like these, each with a story, mostly from Vancouver/Victoria BC area in the 90s and 90s.

Ichiro was delighted and went through them one by one exclaiming to recognition of symbols he spotted in Canada and assigning us each ones to wear “no this one, no this one”.

For me, brought back so many memories of those 80s and 90s when I was back-and-forth (Utah to BC to Europe to Cali to Japan to …) here-and-there in what I realize now was my decades long quest for figuring out “what is Home”).

Ryoko especially enjoyed the repurposed soap box as it’s very Japanese style with the folding – an incredible act of sweetness.

I enjoy seeing your stories, vacation snapshots, childhood memories, last night dreams, creative projects, possible schemes – also: hats, trains, pipes, typewriters, zines, artifacts and what have you

Basically this info above will get your packet here (but if you need more info, DaveO Postal Address details and tips have ya covered).

#grateful

Dossiers of Kerouac in Kobe (& me in Okayama) to global beats

Finally going to sneak up to Kobe just before the end of the Jack Kerouac exhibit (aug 3/4/5).

This one went to a dude in Scarborough

Was hoping things would be chiller and I would be healthier and could bounce up to Kyoto for a couple of days while generally absent in overseas tourists but it just doesn’t seem to ever lineup… Seems every time I leave the house, I “crash“ again #mecfs #digression

Anyhow, this is a little round up of dossiers I’ve mailed out to various Kerouac/beat enthusiast, collectors, archivists and generally-kind folks so that professor Matt Theado & colleagues work is amplified to other corners of other continents.

This to a collector and architect in Germany

Of course I love it when folks send me “static montage“ snapshots of the dossiers. As you will notice, along with the Jack Kerouac stuff, also added in different combinations Of my paintings, postcards, various snapshots, occasional goat farm brochures or museum catalogs and as usual, resplendent with stamps, both inky and postal.

Seen here is last year is canceled catalog and this year‘s phoenix

Shared here in slightly obstificated versions to pretend I’m protecting anyone’s privacy or whatever I don’t know.

Look at that, he already has it framed next to some other lovely pieces

If you don’t know what I’m talking about when I say “Kerouac in Kobe“ or variations thereof, the short version is: this year, like everything else, it’s complicated ?

Here is a stash which went to a painter in eastern USA (included some postcards of paintings)

Was scheduled for last year with the original s/croll and a bunch of workshops (including mine) and ancillary exhibits but, due to quarantine etc., the “keeper of the scroll” (cool job!) couldn’t come… so this year it’s a painstakingly reproduced digital version of the scroll + there was a symposium a couple of weeks back and a nice collection of books and artifacts and typewriters in display.

Bringing it all back home to the goat farm as a reminder that there’s more information elsewhere in this archive

Loads more about elsewhere in this archive >> worth checking it out and giving them some support if you’re in the area. Runs until August 8.

Anyhow, today is father-in-law‘s birthday and think I’m gonna wear my new Fluevog shoes in celebration and we’ll eat curry & new secret hideout. Big moves all around. Ha ha

Oh and that painter I mentioned above also received one of my paintings from a numbered print run of “Gravelly Beach no. 4, Sakura“ I’ve now shared around the world

Post’d: Anchors Aweigh! letters and dossiers into the wormhole

A stack of decorated envelopes with airmail stickers, return address stamp plus 1 yen postal stamps of teddy bears, ink stamps of anchor and shiba-inu dog along with postcards oil paintings of a beach scene and an acrylic painting of postboxes in Nepal along with a picture of the creator, Dave Olson in a headband. All atop a plaid wool blanket.
Let’s enjoy letters, postcards and dossiers in all their inky messy deliberate goodness – made with affection

Anchors aweigh! Another big stack into the postal wormhole / dispatch includes: Suez canal panoramas, evidence of being lost at sea (intentionally), a few new Gravelly Beach postcards, and *classic* Nepal post box. Oh yes, please note the 1¥ postal teddy bear stamps.

Special assistance from my diligent co-conspirator in the stroller who is the neighborhood rockstar. Everyone from the grandmas to the crossing guards to the elementary school kids to Shinogize PO staff want to say hello (and pinch those cheeks ?).

Post’d: usual dossiers of art, poetry and ephemera (and tea)

The usual, ergo:

dossiers of art, poetry and ephemera

scrapbooks of same(ish)

piles to Post offices.

Also tea.

PS I enjoy this sort of activity on many levels for sure, i.e.: find playing with scissors and glue and pens very pleasant and, like the thought of spreading a little bit of goodness to various places around the world and, going to the post office gives me a little manageable errand.

I have a hard time getting “out and about” and really have to minimize screen time so this allows me to communicate and create and keep my brain active.

In these dossiers, i included prints of my paintings, bits of poetry, various insta snapshots, and letters on expired aerograms etc.

Enjoy the goodness / (of course) my address is available and you can sign up for Postal Club. I hope you hang on your fridge or put in a shoebox.

Post’d: Round-up of letters and post making, vol. 2 (undated, variety)

Post’d: Round-up of letters and post making, mailed from Sanur, Indonesia, 2019

Sure, i mail a lot of cards and letters and dossiers of ephemeral treats, poems and painting. Especially to folks who have inspired me or otherwise lent a hand, and to folks (know and unknown) who seem to need a little spark to help them along their journey.

oh! the be an explorer… (envoys to distant lands)

As part of my semi-obsessive documentation for my memory and amusement, i assemble photos (likely) enthusiastic correspondents send of their received items, along with  “still life” photos of postal-related items or post-in-process, and often just scenes of post offices/workers/boxes.

a card to 3 of my fave youths

Often times these items are organized chronologically-ish somehow, or maybe to a theme, but some cases (including this instance), neither applies and what follows is simply a batch of odds and ends hanging out for another cycle into the world.

Generally an absence of annotations as the meanings either aren’t meaningful or rather self-evident (that said, maybe some annotations will appear). Carry on, bring your own stamp.

Post’d: Round-up of mailed items, etc, vol. 1 (generally 2018~2019)

Poet Adam in Utah hills enjoy his letter with a can

As i mail a lot of items, well also just write cards and letters to hand-deliver as well i suppose, i try to document bits and pieces for my amusement and archive including photos enthusiastic correspondents send of their received dossiers, “still life with postal” related items, and post offices/boxes.

Often times these items are organized chronologically-ish somehow, or maybe to a theme, but in this case, neither applies and this is simply a batch of odds and ends hanging out – possibly waiting for another cycle into the world. So zoom zoom go around again (for my own amusement you see).

Before leaving Sanur, left some special notes for the fine young ladies who look out for me (as Vincent, a Mae Maes CD, a literal laundry list and a dragon fruit look on), also cash
