Scrapbook: All About Ryoko (and us <3) – Dave Olson's Creative Life Archive

Scrapbook: All About Ryoko (and us <3)

Within this archive is a wide selection of scrapbooks, notebooks, journals, and so on. The purpose of these analog artifacts being shared here in digital form is mostly for me to have kind of a visual inventory of what exists *and* but also to share the various formats with others as I make scrapbooks by hand, sometimes off the shelf from art supply shops, museum gift shops or ¥100 shops, or other times utilize calendars, passports, booklets and others found objects as the substrate for the collections within.

Herein is sometimes “just the cover” and/or possibly details of the construction, while other times, the whole process by which the books were made inside and out. Other times, sharing detailed pages to detail continents forming narrative or theme, or otherwise about the techniques used to construct. {no doubt, you can find loads of Scrapbook, Diary and Journal examples as videos and photo galleries and notes through this archive}.

Worth noting: some crafters make scrapbooks as “junk journals” or artfully create collage for purely the artistic merit of assembling various papers together in an interesting manner. I think this sort of process is fantastic, however, my scrapbooks, etc. or let’s just say “scrap journalist” are (for the most part) *very specific* detailing a time in my life, a topic, a travel, a theme, or other assemblage – and other times, a collections of art and inspirations for well, art and inspirations.

Now there are times, when the meaning is a little bit removed from literal documentation (for example: by “forged passport” series) and in some cases, like this, the cover of this book is mostly here as a placeholder, so I remember it exists.

Of course, I can look over my left shoulder and see it on the shelf and know it exists yet, now we all know. However, this one is for me and her and us together (but if you come visit and ask nicely, you can look, its not scandalous :))

As such: This is a book of pictures of Ryoko and I falling in love – from soon after we met, to our first road trip, to our visit to her local festival, to our first travel together in Indonesia and up until our wedding.

Of course, from our wedding onwards, there are dozens of means and methods (both analog and digital) to continue our personal documentation but for now, this is Ryoko and I, starting our continual love, love journey.

{this book was on an island in Indonesia for a significant length of time and recovered early 2024 and brought home to Tsuchida Cottage like a time capsule}
