Rock Records & Books, video preview – *maybe*

* Rock records and books story time musings *

I always have things meaning to tell you but recently barely getting out of bed but, was out in kura barn studio and made video(s) about books and records with usual digressions, ramblings, sidenote and what not but in general, topics include:

Topics and Riffs

REM – double 7″ singles with Ages of You and traveling great distances to see them in the 1980s+

New album Jump Rope, 10th studio album

Buffalo Tom https://www.buffalotom.com/ – admiring them emerging from Mass like a mystery to this West coast kid, losing track for some years, their tenth studio album “jump rope” on beautiful colored vinyl and my admiration of Bill Janovitz solo/side projects

Blue Jay Valley – youth rocking from Vancouver, British Columbia with a new 7 inch 4 song release on beautiful colored vinyl

Steve Turner – new-ish book Mud Ride, inscribed to uncle weed & stellar interest in his guitar playing from Green River to Mudhoney.

+ digressions about a visit to Subpop hq & praise for the semi-unheralded MVP @danpeters67 (ig) who drums for everyone (Mudhoney, Screaming Tree, Nirvana, maybe Soundgarden, dozens more, dozens!) and has kids who just graduated from various things who look like his kids so much

Stack em up, read em all

NoMeansNo – book by Josh Lamb with sig from John Wright also of Hanson Brothers & Dead Bob – so many artifacts

NoMeansNo: From Obscurity to Oblivion: An Oral History

Author: Jason Lamb with Paul Prescott • Foreword by Fred Armisen • Afterword by W. Buzz Ryan

Purchase: https://pmpress.org/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1505

Digressions about traveling great distances to see bands, taking my role as a “super fan” for bands that could really use some support diligently and evidence of travels and rambles (always buy the ticket and the merch)

And big thanks to Grant Lawrence for hooking me up with books & how enamored I am by his “Dirty Windshields” pod-audio book enhanced with musings and music from adventures with The Smugglers (more about that in another part two or whatever)

++ riff about Fred Armisen showing up *absolutely everywhere with everyone doing the funnest things* and his original SNL audition tape doing random interviews SXSW (which I attended/slayed/participated for seven years in a different way)

living in parallel worlds accidentally

Name Checks: something something name checks for Rob at Neptoon Records, Nardwuar & Jello Biafra

some topics, not all – requires “part 2”

Filmed in one manic, adrenaline breath (as i try to keep my creative spark lit) in my historic storehouse barn in provincial Japan with a globe/captain’s lamp awkwardly placed behind me, an ice axe inexplicably on the wall, and a Tama cocktail jam drum kit like Stewart Copeland’s + a blackboard running down topics I keep on meaning to tell you about

Who knows if I’ll ever actually get the video out, I film a lot of things and then get stuck in bed and never get them finished up but who knows, there’s a photo so I might actually do it.

Will you watch? Thought so

fondly, dvo/uw

PS I would add links to all of the above things but then I’ll actually never get around to posting this… Oh dang it, maybe I will hold on {ok added some links and tags… this should be easier by now}

PPS also made a part 2 to talk about the stuff which didn’t fit in part 1 – what are the odds of that?
