Books in the Kura – w/ Emde, Lawrence, Kroll, et al & Ichiro

“Books in the Kura – w/ Emde, Lawrence, Kroll, et al & Ichiro” rec: June 2024

Hanging out in the kura with Blue Jay Valley 7″ on the turntable going through a stack of recently received books (continuing from “*Like to Rock* books” video, including:

Starting with: “little bit die” by Jason Emde from Bolero Bird who does a lovely podcast called “Writers Read their Early Sht” (i was a guest :) and also wrote “My Hand’s Tired & My Heart Aches: Letters from Japan, 1995-200x” which appears in “Curiously Punctuated (& Ready) ~ Beat Sushi for Jason Emde

Followed by:

“One Day I Will Write About This Place” by Binyavanga Wainaina (my pardons for stumbling on name, i should’ve been prepared :(), a gift via post (thanks Dr)

“Indonesia: poems and otherwise” by Max Lane from my stash acquired in we’ll… Indonesia (sparking a vague blah blah about my “Circumnavigation, of Sorts” book which needs some love and finish)

Jerry Kroll’s book about his entrepreneurial journeys including: electric cars, tulip bulbs, hemp cloth, sports management, festival promotion, race car teams and more and more and now Jevitty, a biz and app designed to help extend life by tracking data – *and* his book includes an extended blurb by me! (which of course, i read because i’m a cheeseball)

And a variety from Grant Lawrence adding to my collection: “Dirty Windshields: the best and worst of the Smugglers tour diaries” and “Return to Solitude” both of which induce extended soliloquies and flashbacks

More from Canadian Broadcaster and Writer Grant around at “Like to RockBooks” and at http://grantlawrence.ca

Finishes with an arts and crafts project for Ichiro Stanley’s fourth birthday involving more flashbacks of 4 years ago – *that day, this place* – as well as pinking shears, construction paper, and hole punch evoking memories of my mother, and plans for pizza and cake for him

Intro and outro music is by Mikael Lewis of Utah, a song we wrote together (him music, me words) called “Wildflower (for Foster)” in memoriam of Foster Harrison
